Systemic Medicine contributes with a highly effective therapeutic arsenal using adaptogens that regulate cortisol secretion and has immunemodulating effects and allows replacing steroid treatment totally or partially. The use of these plants helps to avoid the emergence or to solve Cushing’s syndrome cases with relative facility.

The Cushing syndrome refers to the materialization of the individual submitted to excessive doses of corticosteroids, commonly due to medicinal overdoses and rarely due to the excessive spontaneous production of corticosteroides by the adrenal cortex.

Cushing's syndrome is originated by diverse pathologies, nevertheless, the greater numbers of people with this diagnosis are patients with diverse diseases with an immunological origin, such as: lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Fibromyalgia, scleroderma, psoriasis, chronic allergic dermatitis, etc); whose conventional treatment protocols include synthetic steroid use with the objective of ' restraining the immunological system '.

The patient with high cortisol levels per prolonged periods, presents/displays typically: Full Moon face, menstrual alterations or lack of menstruation, obesity, erectile dysfunction, muscular flaccidity, psychological changes, thinning of the skin, osteoporosis, hypertension, slow cicatrisation, increase of glucose levels in blood and vessels, increase of white plaques, glaucoma, cataracts, gastritis and increase of seric cortisol levels, among others.

No doctor indicates treatments with steroids with the intention of maintaining them for a long term, nevertheless, the unstable clinical evolution of patients with chronic degenerative diseases of autoimmune etiology, even with the use of synthetic steroids such as Prednisone, Metilprednisolone, Dexametasone, Triamcinolone, Betametasone, Deflazacort, etc, does not allow the physician to withdraw the medication, quite the opposite, he often sees the necessity to increase the doses or to maintain them during prolonged periods, often for life.  These patients often display the secondary Cushing's syndrome, due to medicines, a very difficult condition to handle with existing conventional treatments.

Systemic Medicine contributes with highly effective therapeutic arsenal by using primary adaptogens (Eleutherococcus senticosus, Rhodiola rosea, Leuzea carthamoides, among others) whose common characteristic is the regulation of the hypothalamus-hypofisis-suprarenal axis, reason why it regulate the cortisol secretion. The use of these medicinal plants allows the doctor to avoid the appearance or to solve Cushing's syndrome cases with relative facility. On the other hand there exist adaptogens with verified immunomodulation effects that can replace steroid treatments totally or partially, allowing controlling and regulating the Immune Intelligence of the human living system, which is much jeopardized in this group of patients.
