Osteoarthritis is a chronic degenerative disease which affects joints and is characterized by loss of articular cartilage, pain, incapacity and Systemic Medicine is the best treatment for this condition.

This disease is frequent in subjects over 55 and is more common in women. The main risk factors are: obesity, fractures, previous knee surgery, and occupational routines that imply bending and lifting the knees with frequency.

The disease affects all structures within the knee. Not only is the articular cartilage lost but the bone remodeling produces narrowing of the articular cap and weakening of the periarticular muscles.

Pain is related to mobility. The morning weakness lasts less than thirty minutes. The patients feel that the knee "gives up on them" which are instability symptom and can indicate the presence of a ruptured meniscus or the anterior crossed ligaments. Nevertheless, it can also reflect weakness of the muscles that support the knee.

X-rays can be normal at the beginning of the disease; the findings have little correlation with the pain. The magnetic resonance can show the presence of osteoarthritis and meniscus rupture.

Systemic Medicine is the only treatment that restores the joint's padding and the bone mass, avoids the wear of the bones and the placement of prosthesis, diminishes the symptoms and improves the quality of life, without producing indirect effect.

We have managed to rescue the mobility and functionality of the knee in 80% of the cases. We indicated adaptogens that do not produce synthetics' adverse effects on the patient when administered a Non-Steroid Anti-Inflammatory (NSAID). In addition, in the Adaptogen Medical Centers and Units other treatments are used that contribute to the improvement of the patient such as, for example, neural therapy, also patients are referred to physiotherapy centers to fortify the mobilization of the joints.
