When a considerable body fat is present in the organism, besides the organic changes which diminish vigor to maintain a healthy sexual relationship and libido, the individual will prioritize the pleasure of compulsive eating to the intimacy with his/her partner.

'The human being recurs to many pleasures during his lifetime to make more satisfactory his passage through this worldly transit, by making use of many sensations which grant satisfaction to his body, soul and mind. Food and sex are two of the most predominant of pleasures.

However, many people substitute the sexual appetite for the anxiety of food to the point were they generate such a dependency on food that they become indifferent to their own physical changes and the consequences that these mat bring.

According to the urologist Dr. Salvador Rocafull, in masculine obesity the fatty tissue increases and it's there that the transformation of peripheric testosterone into estrogen is localized. As a consequence changes are generated in the primary sexual characteristics of men, such as penis and testicular sizes; or in the secondary characteristics such as increase in muscle mass and body hair localization. Finally as a consequence of the reduction in testosterone, a reduction in vigor to maintain sexual relations and libido ensues.

To this respect the urologist explains that the appearance of gynecomastia or development of mammary glands, the disappearance of body hair and the reduction in sex drive are the main alterations which the obese man experiences, but indirectly the partner -sooner or latter- also loses interest because of their unattractiveness.

Without strength and without desire

Due to an increase in corporal mass and tissue which must be oxygenated by the heart, obese people have to deal with hypertension as a complication which increases their cardiovascular risk. Thus, the vitality diminishes which on its turn reduces resistance and vigor of men during their sexual relations.

'If there are any issues with hypertension there is a high probability of damage in the vascular endothelium which may cause sexual dysfunction, which h impedes the man from sustain an erection with which to carry out sexual intercourse and have a healthy sexual relationship' explains Dr. Rocafull.

Added to these organic changes, the transformation in the sexual motivation occurs due to a significant reduction in the libido and therefore in the way the sexual drive is substituted by the pleasure of compulsive eating.

The consequences of the change of masculine into feminine hormones in obese men, affect in one way or another in their physical and psychological changes which generate sexual dysfunction. Therefore the specialist suggests a weight reduction through diet and exercise, to improve heart condition as well as psychological factors, such as appetite anxiety but not for food but for sex.
