Modern life has the highest cost for men: it generates stress levels that complicate their family life and directly damage their sexual health.

The solution is simple: it is necessary to go to the doctor and, in most cases; it is possible to recover, if not all the tranquility, at least a healthier sexual life.

The international survey of masculine sexuality 'sex and the modern man' applied to 8 thousand 500 men in nine countries ( Mexico , Spain , Brazil , Canada , Italy , France , Sweden , England and Germany ), discovered that the factor that most affected sexual desire was stress.

'The issues in the relationship and a feeling of not fulfilling the partner's expectations, either sexual or others, in conjunction with stress, reduce in an important way the sexual pleasure of the modern man ", indicates the study.

Sexual difficulties have all types of effects in the quality of life of the Mexican: they damage his relation with his partner, the family environment and there are even reductions in his labor capacities. The man "lives a process of isolation as a form of defense ", says Eusebio Rubio Aurioles, president of the Mexican association for Sexual Health .

A common consequence of stress and other life style factors are erectile dysfunction, defined by the andrology specialist Lauro Gómez Guerra as a decrease the sexual capacity that prevents man from having satisfactory sexual relations. "When the sexual capacity is reduced, his quality of life is also reduced and this interferes with his personal relations' the expert said.

At world-wide level, it is estimated that around 152 million men suffer this; the survey indicates that 55 percents of the Mexicans between 40 and 70 years have it in some degree.

"In that segment of the Mexican population, practically one of every two males has an erectile dysfunction problem. We are talking about five and a half to six million Mexicans' said Lauro Gómez Guerra.

Rubio Aurioles also said that 10 to 15 percents of young people have suffered in some occasion problems of this type. Episodes which are more associated with stress, difficulties with the couple or psychological problems.

'But it is an alert call, because it echoes in the future; it has impact in the quality of life and the way in as one grows sexually ", the president of the Mexican Association for the Sexual Health said.

Gómez Guerra agrees with this appreciation. 'To go to the doctor to take care of a possible erectile dysfunction is important, because without age concern, it is a premonitory sign of other disorders such as myocardium infarcts, cerebrovascular accidents, hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol...'

The andrology expert said that fortunately the Mexican culture has begun to change. 'For about eight years, less than 0.1 percent of the Mexican men went to consultation' said Gómez Guerra. 'Today almost 10 to 12 percents do.

'What we want to communicate is that there are means to continue enjoying the life in couple'.

Seven of each ten problems of erectile dysfunction are of organic origin. Two have mixed, organic and psychological causes, and one is almost exclusively psychological.

It must be noted that sexual irregularities are not exclusively masculine. 49% of the women who attend consultation report some type of dysfunction, mainly anorgasmy.
