The Federal Drugs and Foods Administration (known as FDA, by its abbreviations in English), indicated that some products used increase sexual power contain the same ingredients as the Viagra tablets, drug which is sold under medical prescription in the United States.
According to the Government's regulating agency, those products to offset erectile dysfunction, although are not illegal can be dangerous for the health. In some cases they may cause a mortal interaction with many prescribed medicines for cardiac problems, especially those that contain nitrates.
In a statement, the FDA warned consumers not to buy products such as Zimaxx, Libidus, Neophase, Nasutra, Vigor-25, Actra-Rx or 4EVERON.
Many of those products are offered in Internet by mysterious distributors who, to lower prices -and without prescription- promise to solve erectile dysfunction problem. To that promise is added the transmission by some television channels offering a series of products that promise to increase the pleasure and the frequency of sexual relations.
For Steven Galson, director of the FDA's Center for Evaluation and Drug Investigation, these products are a threat for public health because they contain non-declared substances similar or identical to "the approved active ingredients", such as Viagra or Levitra.
"This risk is even more serious because consumers do not know that those ingredients can interact with other medicines and dangerously lower their sanguineous pressure", he indicated. According to the FDA, Zimaxx contains sildenafil, which is the active ingredient in Viagra.
The other products including in the FDA warning contain ingredients similar to sildenafil or vardenafil, the active ingredient of Levitra. "Consumers who suffer diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or cardiac problems frequently consume nitrates", said the FDA.
Erectile dysfunction is a common issue in men who undergo those health problems and it's possible that they try to buy those products because salesmen affirm that they are natural or they do not contain the active ingredients of the medicines to fight it and that have been approved by the FDA, he indicated.
