The patient, aged 80 years old of Portuguese origin, had attended our Adaptogen Medical Center at Sabana Grande ( Caracas ) presenting/displaying pain in his joints. In his first appointment he was diagnosed arthrosis, arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus type 2, reason why the appropriate treatment -for these diseases- was indicated to him.
He regularly attended his medical checkups, demonstrating an excellent evolution: the arterial tension was controlled, glucose levels were normalized and the pain in the joints disappeared, with a treatment based on adaptogens and synthetic drugs.
Nevertheless, the patient did not return to his third control medical checkup, reason why he received the customary telephone to our patients to remind them of their appointment.
Mr. DeSousa had not gone to his appointment because that day he woke up with pain in the chest. However the telephone call urged him and he went to his appointment.
When arriving, he showed pain and malaise, reason why he was immediately sent to consultation with Dr. Myriam Turmero, cardiologist and Systemic Medicine specialist, who noticed the seriousness of his condition.
The patient presented/displayed high cardiac pressure indicators and intense coronary pain, characteristics of an Acute Myocardial Infarct. The diagnosis corroborated by means of an electrocardiogram was EXTENSIVE SUBENDOCARDIC INFARCT in its previous phase, reason why the Dra. Turmero without further delay proceeded to stabilize the patient: administrating him coronary vasodilators, anti-hypertensives, analgesic and endovenous diuretics; also, blood samples were taken for laboratory examinations.
Later he was transferred in an ambulance to the Caracas University Hospital , entering the Intensive Care Unit, evolving favorably. Days later, the relatives of Mr. DeSousa expressed their gratitude and respect for the professional and humane service rendered in this emergency. They also thanked for the Appointments Control call, since the gentleman lives alone and the call was very opportune. Their words were "thanks for that call, and for bringing him to consultation. You saved the life of my relative."
